about

'The Garden of Antiquities of Floribunda Hyde', is a song that wrote it self in my head, on a short trip to the Isle of Wight. The funny thing I often find about the Isle of wight, is that much of the architecture that you find there is quite 'victorian!' places like Osbourne house. But there are also many fantastical outdoor places like tea rooms with adjacent model villages, many toy and doll museum's, arcades, and many 'ye old world' seaside resort attractions. When I was 17 on a visit back to the mother country! I believed it might be a nice idea to write a concept album about a place with an old fashioned English feel to it, where a host of oddball english characters might live, (I know this because I wrote the idea down in a book I recently found!) When I was 26 I recorded 'Mckenzie Crawley Gardens!' which expanded on that theme considerably enough! (coincidental perhaps, or because people don't actually change that much !) 'The Garden of Antiquities of Floribunda Hyde' is an imagining of a garden used to preserve the old ways, by Floribunda Hyde, (I know her name does sound like she has some thing to do with the toothpaste industry, maybe she does!) In the garden of Floribunda Hyde there are many attractions, a train set that carry's pots of tea from the kitchen into the garden, where a person (any, person) can enjoy a cup of tea and a scone whilst lazing on a striped 1920's deck chair, in the midday sun. This song was actually written on a harpsichord belonging to Johann Sebastian in that very garden of antiquities, of which I have previously made mention. Of course the piano instrument the youth's and the yobo's are using these days is much to arcane for the old fashioned Floribunda Hyde.An advertising jingle for this magnificent one of a kind, brand new! garden of antiquities, would seem wholly appropriate.
