This track is different in theme to that of the first two parts of 'the Spiral Staircase', which was in-fact never intended to be a trilogy. What happened here was a simple case of working on a fresh piece of music that reflected some tonal similarities to the previous two parts of the staircase series. Here we have a waltz, with a melody line played on one of my self programmed synth sounds, which was designed as a harmonic instrument (with in-built wind chimes), but I found it worked in a particularly melodic capacity here. The wind chimes in-built in my self made synth sound, created some interesting incidental counter arguments for the melodic second subject. The melodic bass figure builds up in layers on synth and timpani first, then Moog bass, and tape strings (mellotron) to become prominent towards the end of the track. I'm also really interested in how synthesisers provide un-intended moments of harmony that can be harnessed and used and you can hear evidence of this during the electronic segment at the summit of the apex of this track.

During the principally electronic section of this track I did try to engineer a synth sound on a software synthesiser to counter the main sound heard using frequency modulation but this rather over-complicated things and didn't really work. So what you get is this 'the Pinnacle and Apex' of 'the Spiral Staircase' trilogy.
