The Benevolent miser Edgar Arthur Stiff. Influenced by the true life story of 'John Elwes' victorian cabinet minister, and heir to a considerable fortune. 'John Elwes' out of perceived virtue and cavalier pride, lived out his life in conditions of poverty. Going so far as to contract gangrene, through the conditions of his daily living, leading to a painful leg amputation. Famously these events inspired Charles Dickens to pen the miserly 'Scrooge' the protagonist of the classic victorian novel 'A christmas Carol'. 'Edgar Arthur Stiff' is closer in nature to 'John Elwes', in that the life style he subjects upon himself, is done with good intentions: to secure wealth and opulence unto the future society at 'Mckenzie Crawley Spires.' A magnificent city erected at his expense and to his order, as instructed within 'Arthur Stiff's' last will and testament!
lyrics
The Benevolent Miser Edgar Arthur Stiff
Walking through a dreary seaside town,
where everything was gone, or not around.
How particularly gloomy to see a hearse,
quite honestly I could think of nothing worse.
Than being buried somewhere so normal,
with out a view,
there must be something else that I could do.
I got fingers poking through the holes in me gloves,
Well I could say that this is more than enough,
Billions of pounds collected under 'me' bed
for something grand when I am cold and dead.
Here lies the Benevolent Miser Edgar Arthur Stiff,
A city of gold large neon and gold,
built with money he could not leave with,
he's coated in gold,
in silver and gold,
he's standing in the market square,
in a city so large that you can see it from space,
so everybody knows that he was there,
and everybody knows he really cared.
Standing above the mantelpiece a shelf,
Edgar Arthur waits all by himself,
Stanley Bothington Minor arrives at 4.o clock,
to take care of the will, and any assets he's got.
I've got fingers poking through the holes in me gloves,
well I can say that this is more than enough,
billions of pounds collected under me bed,
for something grand when I am cold and dead.
